Wintertime at lake apartment
It's 25 degrees outside and the roads are iced over. Classes have been canceled, and it's time to curl up on the couch with a steaming mug of cocoa or coffee. Your black and white cat, a stray you rescued some time ago, curls up on your lap, purring intermittently. You're listening to a podcast quietly while your partner works on their computer.
Should you be doing homework? Probably. But you'll get to it. For now there is only the warmth of the cup in your hands, the blanket around you, and the cat on your lap.
Geese shriek occasionally from the lake outside, talking amongst themselves.
You're mostly just grateful you're indoors, safe from the storm.
